The hero of two penalty shootouts on the way to the Junior Cup Final, Goalkeeper Charlie (Chaz) Langham, answered some questions for us on his season, the highlights of the cup run and what it means to be in the final at Portman Road – Thursday 29th May (kick off 7.30pm).
1 – How has the season gone from your perspective?
What a season! Full of highs and lows. Personally I think in the league with the squad we have we possibly should have done better, but with it being most of the lads first season in the division I think we did well. However the cup run has been awesome, from the first game we played in this cup we all knew the aim was to play at Portman Road and I think the lads will back me when I say it wasn’t easy but with the spirit this team has we managed to do it.
2 – What does it mean to get to a cup final?
It means a lot. We have worked hard all season to get to this point and now that’s it’s almost here it feels amazing. The build up has been exciting, the whole team has been buzzing and we all can’t wait to get out there and compete for the trophy.
3 – What has been the highlight of the cup run for you?
Definitely the semi final, from start to finish, it was great game to play in. However, the penalty shoot out was the best part for me and to save 2 penalties and help the lads to get the chance to play at Portman Road in a final was an amazing feeling.
4 – What are you looking forward to most playing at Portman Road?
That’s a tough question. I could give you a long list but if I had to give you one answer it would definitely be walking out the tunnel with this team in front of all the supporters. I’ve played with some of these players from the age of 6 and to be able to walk out onto a premier league standard pitch with them will be something that will stick with me for life.
5 – On an average day how many pigeons do you think you could reasonably carry and why?
Great question 🙂 . A lot of things to take into consideration like the different species and if they stay still. So I’m going to say, if the pigeons stay still , on an average day I reckon I could carry 9 pigeons. This would be based on 1 in each hand, 2 on each forearm, 1 on each shoulder and 1 on my head. However, this is without carrying any in pockets and hoods so if I had the right clothes on I think I could get 1 in each pocket, front and back, and then another 2 in my hood. So I’m going to say 15 pigeons.
* editors note – if you do see Chaz in Trafalgar Square anytime soon chasing pigeons around, please contact the club immediately. We’ll look after him.
